I'm 14 and I do my work experience in about 9 months or so. I really want to work in a tattoo studio (or something like that) but i'm sure my Dad won't let me. How do I convince him?

  1. You probably have to be over a certain age to work in a tattoo studio anyway so you more than likely wouldn't be allowed, and even if it were legal I doubt any tattoo studio would take you on at that age.

If you are interested in that kind of thing do a placement to do with art since tattooing is a form of art and you usually have to have some art skills to be a good tattooist.

  2. At a tattoo studio is very risking. It will have all sorts of legal requirements hygiene etc so may need more insurance if anything goes wrong. I'm not saying it will but anyone with little or no experience in a job that deals with ink and needles which peirce the skin is a risky combination.

  3. well, if not a tattoo studio, why not have a look if you can do work experience at an illustrators studio? (i know one who takes in a few students a year) or even a florist - all three have a similar work ethos

  4. Well...it SHOULD be up to you. But I am not sure I would let my 14 year old daughter do that either...plus it might be illegal as there are dangerous tools...diseases could be transmitted via the needles and the studio probably wouldn't want you as their insurance won't cover you. HOWEVER....you could look into a placement on a tatto magazine....you might not live near any offices of magazines but you could consider an online placement....they might help you if you contacted them....they could set you assignments for small articles to write...or other work related to them...give it a go!

  5. btw, i'm sure you have to be 18 to be able to work in something like that? from where i'm from you have to anyways.

if you're old enough to from where you're from and it's what you want to do when you're older then tell your dad that it would help as you need experience and that is the whole point of work experience - to get an idea of what it would be like doing they job you think you're going to want to do when you leave school.

i done my work experience in a nursery and i really enjoyed it and i went to college doing it and everything but now, i don't like it and i've moved on to do hairdressing - you'll be surprised how much you change your mind when you actually leave and do that job.

  6. Doesn't sound like you've even tried. He's probably worried about you not seeing a balanced view of things. How about getting work experience in a tattoo removal place. He might be keener on that. You'd get to see things from the other side, and still be involved in the same industry.

  7. Check first if your school would allow that.
