Question:

Why can't I download anything in my dell pc?

I just recently bought a new dell computer pc (windows vista) and it doesn't let me download my own programs for example photo shop or even software games...and it also doesn't let me download programs on line. The thing is I already bought the same pc before and it had the same problem so I returned it and got another one but it's the same thing all over again. Do I have to do anything specific so it could work?

  1. I don't why these answers are so mean.

Copied this from the Windows Help and Support

If you need more help just click Help on the Windows Start Menu and type in the question.

Insert the disc into your computer and then follow the instructions on your screen.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Many programs installed from CDs or DVDs will attempt to launch an install wizard for the program automatically. In these cases, the Auto Play dialog box will appear and you can choose to run the wizard. For more information, see AutoPlay: frequently asked questions.

If a program doesn't begin to install, check the information that came with the program. This information will likely provide instructions for installing the program manually. If you cannot access the program's information, you can also browse through the disc and open the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe or Install.exe.

  2. Ok sounds like a faulty CDRom to me.

When you insert a cd to install a program, does anything appear on your monitor?

When you click on 'My Computer' does it show any CD drives?

  3. I'm not sure what you mean by "download my own programs."

Do you mean that you can't run programs that are installed? If you had software on a previous machine, it won't automatically appear on your new machine.

    Do you have internet access?

You need to be more specific; it's hard to understand what you're asking. Part of the problem may be that you aren't real clear what the word "download" means.

  4. Since it's happened on two new computers, I'd absolutely say it's 100% entirely your fault. Whatever you did initially upon setting up your computers, somehow you did this. And now that I'm writing the above I think I realized what the problem is: You set up your account without administrator privileges, so you can't install programs. You have to log in as administrator and turn off the other accounts and just use an administrator account as your primary account. Or, if someone else, like your parents, set up your account, you'd have to ask them to give your account administrator privileges.

When you install a program from a CD it's called install, not "download." One could download programs from the internet. To install those programs you'd click on them.
