When I bought it 5 years ago I could locate a wide range of stations -albeit varying- from all over the world. Now only on occasion can i find any perceptible signal at all.

  1. As more digital and satellite signals are opening older frequency signals are being switched off.

Unfair 'cos it was all working ok.

  2. We're at the bottom of the sun spot cycle at the moment, this reduces the ionization of earth's atmosphere. Short wave radio bounces off the ionization layer, hence the problems you're currently encountering.

The sunspot cycle is on the increase, and will continue to increase the ionization of the atmosphere. Short wave listening will continue to improve for the next 12 years-ish !

Also, a number of traditional shortwave transmissions have ceased, probably due to easier distribution through the internet.
