When we are children most of us enjoy any and every game available to us. Why is it that as most of us age, playing games is no longer fun?

  1. It's the other way around -- we don't stop playing becuase we get older, we get older because we stop playing.  Like the old Twilight Zone episode where the geezers escape from their rest home by playing kick the can.

I know what you mean, though.  I often get that "quickly side step away with a vague, uncomfortable smile" reaction from people when I "admit" I really enjoy playing boardgames.  Oh well, their loss.

There are lots of resources about boardgames, as well as ways to find game groups in your area, at the appropriately named http://www.boardgamegeek.com.

  2. Risk, scattergories, yahtzee, LOVE EM'!!! I guess i'm lucky to have people to actually play with, although i will admit to playing scattergories alone.  I know, just pitiful. :)

  3. ill play with you... monopoly?

  4. I think it's still fun.  Oddly enough, I've found more people to play with as an adult than I did growing up.  I believe people drift away from it because of other obligations, and a lack of time.

If you are in the US, check out the link below from boardgamegeek.  You can also try to find other gamers at your local games store.  Some games stores have bulletin boards with lists of potential players, and/or set up gaming tables or schedule demos.

  5. Games are still fun but people don't have time.  They need to work to make money, raise their own kids, etc.  Just no time for game-playing.
