Question:

Why can't I get a picture on my VCR/DVD?

Until recently, I've used the same VCR/DVD forever. (Don't ask me which model, I can't even remember now. And I can't look to see. I'll explain.) I've been hooking up my Xbox and Wii to this VCR/DVD for awhile and it's always worked--I've gotten sound and video with out a problem.

Now that I've recently had Dish TV installed, nothing is working. I have a Hitachi brand TV (60") from a few years back. Everything worked completely fine until now... Last saturday, I purchased a new VCR/DVD thinking the old one was worn out. Wrong. This one isn't working either. I replaced the cables and made sure none of the jacks are faulty and that everything is plugged in properly; I get sound, but no picture. I've checked the channels, they're right. Checked my 'input' on the tv and that's all set. But still no picture.

Help?

  1. have you tried using something else to imput a video signal lately like your wii etc. the plug recectiple may be damaged? do you have multiple imputs  another one could be tried.  try to turn off your dish tv

  2. How is the Dish TV connected to your TV? Via Coax or via composite? (yellow plug)

How is your VCR connected to the TV? Via Coax or via a composite?

Can you watch Dish? If you switch the Dish and the VCR inputs, does the VCR work now?

In most cases, due to copy protection issues you can't connect a DVD player (like xbox) to a VCR. But maybe you are not selecting the correct input in your TV (TV vs Video)
