I have 2 iPods (iPod touch and iPod shuffle). Whenever I plug them into the computer(as per the instructions they came with) the "Found New Hardware Wizard" comes up but it says it can't install the ipod because it can't find the right software. I have downloaded iTunes so I have no idea what else I should be doing

  1. You can try Tansee iPod Transfer which can backup songs and videos in iPod to PC, copy iPod songs and videos to new ipod, computer or notebook.

Some useful information you can get on the official site:

  2. you need to register your ipods, you can do this through itunes, once you plug you ipod in.

  3. make sure your firewall isn't blocking the application required to install it.

if it still doesn't work. take it back to the store & tell them.

  4. This is a bit long but I hope it helps:-

The ipod is designed to work with and be the slave to itunes on the computer to which its paired, you need to download the latest version of itunes from www.apple.com/itunes on the computer you are wanting to use it on (so it gives you the correct version) then on Windows RESTART.

If you do not pair a ipod to a computer you cannot alter its settings (Say YES to the question about syncing it)

You cannot sync to a new ipod thats not registerd via itunes (need internet connection) to complete registration process.

also this sounds like you have a firewall issue thats blocking the port that the itunes store uses.

it needs the following ports free:-

52,53,4555,5291,6356,6385 and if using sharing of libraries:- 3689 & 5353

If you pair your ipod to a new computer it overwrites whats on it.

Simply dragging music onto an ipod does NOT make that music playable it then acts as hard disk. To make the music playable you MUST use itunes to sync with it as only itunes can put the music files in the correct file names (not the same as on the computer) in hidden folders and create the hidden indexes for them to be playable.

When you pair the ipod to a computer it erases ALL the previous library and tracks and replaces it with what the current computer want it to.

if you want to erase the ipod you select RESTORE form the ipod's tab in itunes then it re formats and re installs the ipods firmware resetting everything to default values and removing the lock (except for the touch which asks for the code to allow this)

the ipod needing a master player to sync with is NOT unique to apple Creative, Zune, Sony al have one of one sort or another.

  5. go to micosoft and get free updates for your computer.

  6. Maybe you need to upgrade your operating system. The newest iPods will only work with the most recent Windows operating systems.  For example iPod touch will only work with Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or above.  If you're using Windows 2000, then it won't you won't be able to install the iPod on that computer.   I have the same problem when I try to charge my iPod touch on my computer a work.  It doesn't recognized the hardware even though I have iTunes installed on my computer.  It turned out we are using an older version of Windows and it's not compatible with the iPod touch.

If you Window's System is pretty current, then try installing the newest version of iTunes.  Go to apples website and get the latest version.  www.apple.com/itunes

  7. So once you have downloaded iTunes, recnnect your iPod to your computer and it should just pop up

  8. Yer you need to register.
