Why can't I install my Sims2 Apartment Life game?

Please I really need help!! I just bought my Sims 2 apartment life game, (I was so excited to play it!!) and so i inserted it into my computer, and it doesn't read it! You hear it loading, like it going eeeerrrrrr, and my cursor starts changing, but then my computer stops loading and my cursor goes back to normal. It doesn't even detect it!

What I'm really asking is, why isn't it working, and how do I make it work?? Thank you for everyone's help!!

You had better check that your computer has a DVD drive, as AL is on a DVD. If you haven't then chances are it just won't work. However, if you do have a DVD drive then I would suggest turning your computer off for a minute and then restarting it. Try again and see if that helps. Otherwise you could try clicking on the run box in the menu and selecting the right drive. I'm afraid if none of those help I can only suggest contacting EA or The Sims 2 website via email, and asking them. Hope one of those solves it, AL is worth it :-)

i am having a similar problem. when i first put it in it wouldn't automatically read the disc even though it reads other discs just fine. i manually ran it and it installed fine.

now that i want to play it again it will not load! i have tried to manually start it again but it just makes the sound like its going to run but doesn't.

i have a dvd drive, obviously as i was able to install it and there are no scratches or anything on the disc. this problem seems to be isolated to the game alone.

sorry i don't have any other help but just wanted you to know that its not just you.

im still researching a solution besides taking it back for a new one.

Look for DVD ROM on your computer. If it doesn't have it get an external drive.

I have a similar issue but mine actually downloaded and I was able to play it but then when I shut it down and went to play it later on that day it would not load and my computer keeps saying it does not recognize the disk! All of my other Sims2 games work fine but it refuses to read this one. I went back to the store I purchased it from and exchanged for a new one and still the same problem! I even un-installed all of my games reinstalled them without issue but it will not read this one. I'll keep you updated if I am able to resolve this issue.

Do any of your other discs work? It could be something wrong with your disc drive, it may need replaced.

Look at the disc and I know its new, but look to see if it has any defects, maybe wipe it with rubbing alcohol very lightly. Check that you disc drive doesn't have any dust in it.

Let the game sit in there for a minute and stop the auto run, then when its just in the drive and not reading the disc, go into your start menu, into my computer, find the disc drive your Sims AL is in, It would say the name of the disc next to the drive example, d:/thesims2

If you see the name of the game there, your computer recognizes the disc, double click it from there and see if it will run.
