Question:

Why can't I keep my widescreen resolution when adding another monitor?

I have a 32 inch LG with a native res of 1366*768

and a 20 inch BenQ with a native res of 1680*1050

Both off DVI I am splitting them out from my 8800 GT OC2 from BFG.

My problem is that I use the 32 as my main and the 20 as the secondary. So I start with the main at 1366 by 768, fine. Then I go to display settings and extend the desktop onto the second monitor, at 1680 by 1050. After this happens, the resolution on my 32 is dropped back to 1280 by 768..... Which is incredibly frustrating.

Why?

  1. It could be that your 20' monitor can only support the resolution 1280 by 768.

  2. Sounds like a driver issue to me. Try downloading and installing the drivers for that chipset from nvidia's website and see if you get the same problem.

If not, it might be something with memory allocation on the card and it just wont let you run full high res on both.

But my bet is just the drivers.
