Why can't I (or anyone) locate anything on my blog (blogspot.com) via a search engine?

Question

I'm new to blogging and noticed that search engines often list pictures or postings from blogs, but I've never been successful in finding anything on my blog site via Yahoo or Google. Why not? Did I miss something in the fine print of the contract?
