I have a full driver's license through ontario's 5 year program. I took lots of lessons and practiced to death everything which worked, except i cant park in parking lots! If i am in the middle of the yellow lines ever it is by luck today i hit a car, and am always skewed in the yellow lines, overlapping the next spot and almost always have to reverse to correct it. People say this is because i drive a '95 Ford Taurus, but i simply cant afford a new car. I also dont have a learning disabilty, (so there is no explination for my failiure to do a simple manuver after driving for 5 years) so simply try to help me the best you can.

  1. If Ontario is like Pennsylvania, it's because you were never taught how to park in a lot only along the street.  Since people rarely park on the street anymore, parallel parking is a required skill that most people never use.

First of all don't back into the space.  It is much more difficult to back into a space, which is small, compared to backing into the lane of traffic.  Consider it as making a turn into a small alley.

  2. Learn how to use your mirrors. They can help even if you're pulling into a parking space by judging the distance between you and other cars. Personally, I prefer to back into a parking space. You don't know what the lot will look like when you return, and it's a lot easier to pull out when you leave than to back out. If you want to get better, just go somewhere and practice.

  3. First of all: 1)now that you have the license, you're not being graded.  We want you to center your car mostly as an act of courtesy to the cars around you - so we can get out easily.

    2)Relax.

    3) Look for spaces where you can pull all the way through from the near row to the far row.  Your car will then be parked nose-out, and you'll have a bit longer a distance in which to center up your car in the lines.

  4. Go to an empty lot and practice , get someone to park a car in a spot and try parking behind that car , make sure that car is between the lines , after you do that try pulling in beside it, make sure to give yourself at least a half a car length . Its just like parallel parking, practice ,practice, practice...

  5. well it should be fairly easy parking in a parking lot. but i think your problem is that when your behind the wheel your not relaxed, and you get way too nervous when you in a parking lot. remember you have complete control of your car. and when your going to park park very slow. lol
