Question:

Why can't I play command and conquer on my laptop?

I have the most recent C&C game and I also have Red alert 2. Both games do exacty the same thing when I try to use them. The game installs succesfully and appears to be working correctly. But when I try to play the game it loads it up and then it just stops working and returns to the desktop screen. I am running windows vista home premium and my laptop is a Sony Viao VGN - CR21S incase that matters. The Games both say they are compatible with Vista. I am wondering if the game isn't working because I dont have a proper graphics card? I have Mobile Intel Graphics media accelerator X3100. Is this relevant? Still, Red Alert is an old game and I didnt think you would need a massively great graphics card to run it in the first place.

  1. Probably x3100 is integrated graphics, which really sucks for gaming. Sorry to say but you are SOL.

Try compatibility mode on the older one. May/may not work.

  2. 1) You're probably low on RAM.. if u have 1gb of RAM try upgrading it to 2gb and then run it.. Vista usually takes a lot of RAM to run..

    2) You might also want to scan your PC for infections and see which active processes are running at the time.

    3) Since you have a laptop, cooling shouldn't be an issue but try working in a cooler environment if you can.. Games usually shut down if the computer heats up.

    4) Try updating your drivers for your Mobile Intel Graphics media accelerator X3100 and then run it. With this card i don't think you can run the latest C&C game but you should definitely be able to run Red Alert 2
