  1. I am not a swimmer but I have this problem with my right foot especially.  The reason that I had the problem with my foot not being able to point at 90 degrees is because of the fact that I had been dealing with a tight Achilles tendon for the second time over a period of 30 years.  It sounds like this could be your problem (an example only).

There is a way to fix it if this is your problem.  The Podiatrist or Orthopedic Surgeon (one who specializes in foot and ankle surgery) can take and lengthen the Achilles tendon.  By lengthening the tendon it will help get it back to being able to pointing at a 90 degree angle.

I just had to have this done on my right foot again and had it done 8 weeks ago.

If you have other questions for me about my surgery please feel free to e-mail me off site any time.  Please put in the subject line: "Questions about Achilles tendon surgery" so that I will know what this is in regards to.
