Question:

Why can't I receive financial aid?

I'm heading into my second year of college and attempted to get some financial aid by filling out the FAFSA. I was rejected... again. My stepfather(who is not even my legal guardian) makes good money but doesn't support me in anyway, besides letting me live in his house. I make my own money and am stuck trying to attend and pay for college with my full time job. How come financial aid also doesn't take into consideration that due to extenuating medical expenses my family doesn't have much money to spare, especially for college. Is there any other way I can receive financial aid? Any little bit would really help.

  1. Anyone can get financial aid regardless of parents income in the form of low interest student loans.  Your application for financial aid was not "rejected" you simply didn't qualify for the free stuff like many of the people who apply.

My advise is to tell your schools fin aid office you want to take out stafford loans - also a form of financial aid.  You do not need a cosigner and do not have to pass a credit check to get Stafford loans.

    Good luck.

  2. Hope this helps.
