Why can't I recycle all plastics?

Recently I read somewhere that I can't recycle certain plastic containers, such as #5 Plastic and #7 plastic.. (I think), even if there's a recycling symbol on it. Why is that? And why do they make those kind of plastic if you can't recycle it??

  1. i do not know where you live, but here, in portland, there is a recycling center that opens once a month to drop off all the recyclable plastics that the regular facility can not process...you have one in your area, too....it is just not publicized....you need to call authorities on waste management in your area for a drop off location for all of those other plastics

  2. It depends on where you live and what your recycling facility/waste management accepts.

The most-often recycled plastics are numbers 1 and 2.  But, contact your city or county Department of Public Works, Department of Solid Waste Disposal, or recycling center to learn which plastics can be recycled in your area.  State recycling information (all states) at 1-800-CLEANUP

    The logo...

Since the recycling logo isn’t a government-mandated symbol, manufacturers are allowed to put it on their products even if that product is only recyclable in some places.

i hope this helps a little!
