I can start it up, no problem, but if I let it stall or turn it off before it's warm, I CANNOT restart it, regardless of how much/little choke is used. What could be the cause of this?

  1. Probably some quirk of the cold idle settings, Lucky I don't have one, huh? I'd say its worth examining it when you first cold start it to see exactly what happens and when you restart it see whats different. Then you maybe able to restart it, semi-cold.

This can be a tedious process, I know.  But its the only way to do it, that I know of.

  2. It's 27 years old.

  3. carburetor problem

that old of a bike uses floats, I say its a float sticking or a main jet leaking thru the gasket

the carb is getting too much gas, flooding the engine, you can confirm that if it starts up giving it full throttle
