Why can't I search a email address for someone for free?

Try some of the links below which don't ask for money. Note: there have been numerous reports about the Yahoo! membersearch working poorly. Also, even if a Yahoo member has a mail address, it will not be displayed when the user doesn't allow e-mail contact.

People pay to collect the info and break the law to get it. http://members.yahoo.com does not even work anymore. It is free.

Because otherwise people would be subjected to stalkers on a frequent basis. Plus people have a right to their privacy and an email address is like a telephone number in a way.  People just don't like to give out their email addresses on a regular basis and to people that they don't know.
