Why can't I see things close by when I use contact lenses for short sightedness...?

I am short sighted and I have been using glasses for the last 5 years. I use them mainly for driving. My prescription is -1.25 in one eye and -0.75 in the other. Just a few days ago I started using contact lenses (focus dailies). The problem is, when I put them in, although I can see things far away very clearly, I can't see anything close to me! I can't read anything...it's all blurry! :( ...I really want to use my contact lenses but it's not going 2 be possible if I have this problem! Please can someone tell my why this is happening?? and how to STOP it?

  1. Just so that you know, you are near sighted, not short sighted. Short sighted means that you think of things in the here and now, that you don't plan for the future. Near sighted means that you see objects close to you clearly.

I have the same problem as you do with my contacts. In order for you to see far away your vision is going to lose some focus on objects close to you. You're going to need to use some reading glasses if you plan to read while your contacts are in. Your optometrist should have mentioned this to you.

  2. You may need lenses for reading.  You didn't tell us your age.

  3. It's pretty simple; short sightedness is good close vision but poor distance vision. Your glasses helped you see distance but are clear on the bottom and had no effect on close focus. Contacts, however, change your overall vision to correct for the distance problem and so effects your close vision too. You may need bi-focal contacts. Sux is correct. its nearsightedness, not the above.
