Question:

Why can't I seem to lose anymore?

I am a 21 year old male, 6'1 and over the last year I have successfully lost 61 pounds. I'm not proud to say it, but I got a little over the obese category, but I quickly made a change after being tired of being fat. The problem is a year later, I may lose a pound or two, but then it seems to sneak right back on.

I walk to work every day, 6 days a week. It takes me 25-30 minutes to get there and another 25-30 minutes to get home. Plus I don't have a desk job, so I'm on my feet 7-10 hours a day constantly moving around and even sometimes running when I'm in a hurry. To reach my goal of my recommended weight for my height and age I have a slim 40 pounds to lose, but it doesn't seem to be as easy to lose as it was to lose the 61 pounds.

What can I do to get this off and keep it off? I've thought about giving up, but I refuse to, I've come this far and I'm not looking back.

Thank you! :)

  1. What are you eating?

Are you conscious of what you're eating and are you taking your time eating?

Are you eating until you're satisfied not full?

I start my day with a glass of water (not cold) I can drink it down; no foods at least 3 hours before bed.

Have you considered a change in your current routine to sort of shock your body and lose the remaining pounds, example 15-30 mins on the treadmill at a fast pace and on an incline the short burst of change may do it for you.

  2. Congrats on your weight loss of 61 lbs!!!!  i would change up your workout routine it sounds to me like your body is already use to your exercises and when it gets use to something it wont affect it anymore. Maybe do some weights or try a cardio machine such as the elliptical this will shock your system and you will lose weight again. keep changing things around. to shock your system

  3. You have hit a plateau.  It is good to keep your body guessing calorie-wise, so up your calorie intake slightly. Sometimes if you restrict your body of too many calories, your body will stop losing weight.  Then, once you start losing weight, then you can lower the calorie intake.  Another option is to weight train.  Muscle burns tons of calories at rest, so take up weight lifting!  Plus you'll look all s**y with your muscles, and girls will notice!  It looks like you got the aerobics part covered, if you train all the muscle groups in your body (arms, abs, legs, butt) this should help shed the pounds.  Good luck!
