Question:

Why can't I sing to instrumental music?

I'm a pretty good singer, however, I'm trying to sing and upload it to YouTube, but I can't sing right when I have instrumental music playing. For some reason it sounds so flat and I can't seem to control my voice.

Why is this?

  1. I have hard times singing with instrumentals too. I do this:  I have a program called Audacity[You can download it for free if you just search on google] I import the actual song I want to sing. I sing along with it when I record, then I Split the stereo strack, and invert the Right panal and then I change them both to Mono. The vocals are completely cut out and your voice is still there. I hope this helps!

  2. Tuning when you're singing is hard, but you can fix it if you can hear it.

You could try singing lessons if that takes your fancy.  A good singing teacher will help you develop your control and intonation.

Or you could continue doing what you're doing - record yourself and listen back, and use your instinct to fix what you don't like.  Listen to other singers and compare.

    Good luck!

  3. No need to panic. Here's what you do: find the song that you like (not an instrumental), don't use speakers, use headphones. Now, when the song starts playing, take one earpiece out completely, and one move an inch or two away from your ear so you can hear the song AND your voice. Sing like that for some time, and you'll adapt, and after that you'll be able to sing without background music at all.

  4. Simple... you are TONE DEAF... sorry.. but that is the answer, like it or not.
