Question:

Why can't I use rooting hormone on cuttings for edible crops?

I bought some rooting hormone to use with cuttings from a gooseberry bush, only to read on the label not to use the powder for edible crops. Is there a real reason why, or is this just a precautionary measure for H&S reasons? Anyone tried it? I was hoping to pursue similar uses with other edible plants too.

  1. In the experience of many gardeners and growers, rooting hormones are usually unnecessary. Yes, you can use it with fruits because they are usually slow growing and the hormones would have dissipated by the time they fruit. But use it sparingly with others as you may not need it anyway.
