  1. LAN = local area network

    that is not the internet !!!

    internet = internet lol

    for online gaming u need a working internet connection ~!!!

    telephone meh a pizza lol

    :)

  2. LAN is a Local Area Connection.  I assume you mean a multiplayer game that doesn't need internet access, if you use the internet it's no longer "local".

    There are (expensive) devices that superimpose digital signals over telephone (and electrical) wireing to achieve speed similar to a network connection but it's far cheaper to just use wire that's designed for the speed.

    Phone-lines are flat - they have 2 wires (sometimes 4 or more if you use multiline phones) that are side-by-side and only need to get "most of the information most of the time".  Network cables use Cat5 Cat5e or Cat6 which have 8 wires in 4 pairs.  These pairs are twisted in a special way to prevent "cross-talk" and interference, thus allowing very high speed with minimal interference.  They must get "all of the information all of the time" to achieve the high speeds.  This is why dial-up is so slow, phone lines were designed for voice, not designed for computers.

    For laptops you would probably do best to get a Eithernet Crossover cable and go from one laptop to the other, or set up a ad-hoc wireless network if they both have wireless cards.  If you already have a router to share internet, just hook them up to that and you'll be able to communicate between the two laptops without any complicated configuration.

  3. see...if u r thinking to plug in your lan cards with a telephone wire then it is not possible cause the jack used in telephone wire has a RJ11(4 pin) connector while ur lan card requires an RJ45 conector(8 pin)

    u can use a A CROSSOVER UDP WIRE WITH RJ45 connector to meet ur purpose.....

  4. Phone wire is 4 wires while Cat5 cables are 9 wires in each cable. If you are using a hub or switch, you need to set up a new connection with IPX on and make sure you have Microsoft shares are on and each machine has its own unique IP address.

  5. Lan connection is a local area connection between few buildings or a small area.telephone lines provide a large network coverage therefore it cannot provide the facilities of lan.if you want to play games you can make use of hamachi or gg client

  6. typical phone wire has only 4 wires, some have more but the primary is only 4.......that being a given, as a phone line only requires a lowpower connection and a communications line (its more complicated but I'm keepin it simple) no matter how many wires you have, a phone line only uses 2 wires for each phoneline you have.  The simple explaination is one wire carries power (in) and one carries the info (out)....a lan wire or cat5 as it is commonly referred to, uses pairs of wires for both in and out....and since the way devices communicate is different than the way phones communicate each pair of wires does something slightly different.  the wire is called cat5 because there are 5 pairs of wires.........beyond that the plugs are different sizes as well.

  7. LAN stands for Local Area Network.  Playing it over the internet isn't exactly local anymore.  If your question is concerning LAN cable as opposed to Telephone wire then it's an issue of bandwidth. Cat5 LAN cable is much thicker and capable of transmitting much more data than a telephone wire is.
