  1. My personal opinion on it, is the fact that Liberal can't be neatly defined like say Conservative can.

Conservatives usually have set values in their lifes whereas Liberals are more likely to favor one group of thinking over another and trying to find the like minded people sometimes is hard to link up (For instance, most people that I've met consider  certain liberal ideas whereas holding onto some non-liberal leaning others as a sign of being liberal, however these same people will not usually listen to Liberal radio as it's too far hard left for some middle road to moderate liberals, whereas middle of the road and moderate concervatives can still accept some things that a highly right wing person but disagree, I find some liberals can not accept some highly liberal talk IMO

  2. Interesting question.

I think it's similar to the reasons why bad news sells better than good news. For some reason, folks would rather watch coverage of a catastrophe on the news than hear about someone's contribution to society.

By the same token, it's a lot easier to blame someone for your problems than it is to find a solution. The so-called conservative talk radio hosts have very cleverly tapped into people's dissatisfaction with their lot in life, and have given them scapegoats. I hear a lot of criticism and very few ideas.

Also, many liberals seem to be involved in a cause of some type, whether it's the environment, social justice, health care, animal rights, etc. They seem to be more occupied with things like that, and probably wouldn't spend too many hours listening to the radio... even if the talk show hosts were liberal too.

  3. I hate to sound stereotypical but I'm going to.

Liberals have a shorter attention span and therefore don't adhere to the concepts of a talk radio show.

Example: Most liberal leaders speak in cliche's and quick snippets which makes TV more appealing because they can show funny pictures and video clips to keep people's attention. If guys like John Stewart & Steven Colbert attempted their same shtick on Radio, they'd be considered idiots by most of America.

Guys like Limbaugh, Hannity, OReilley, etc... Although they're blowhards who for the most part are out for themselves, make their points through compelling and well thought out arguments, but you must be willing to listen for more than 3 minutes.

Basically, in my opinion, Liberal talk radio can't succeed because nobody wants to listen to it. Conservative talk radio succeeds becasue those who are willing to listen, come away with something more than cliche's and trash talk, they come away with knowledge.

  4. ....radio is a republican buisness (anti union, free of rules)

with that said, most liberal talk radio hosts are not radio/broadcast people (Randi Rhodes and Jerry Springer are two that have formal broadcast training), they're just people with liberal ideas with a microphone in front of their mouth. If you went to school for broadcasting, and you're a democrat or republican, chances are people will listen because you know how to pace yourself, not sound too loud and don't have many "ummm" or "ahhh" moments

  5. Most Liberals are not listening to talk radio.

They listen to music or Howard Stern and the like.

    They find politics boring.

    All they know is:

Vote for the Democrat 'cause they give us more stuff.

    They're for the poor folks.

Take from the rich and give to the poor.

As long as they've got their check coming in... they don't want to know nothing.
