Question:

Why can't Major League baseball teams win on the road?

There's only one team in the American League with a winning road record. It seems to be true in other fields, i.e., the music business. On the road, away from home is no vacation.

  1. baseball has a HUGE crowd effect and the walls are played differently I.E. fenway park, the monster is played dfferently, hope that helps you

  2. That is why the Angels are such a strong team this year.

I think its the whole traveling scheme because that right there can be a distraction.

  3. I would like to know as well. I hope road teams do better in the playoffs. I would hate to see quick series'. I like to see it when both teams are tied and the next game is an elimination game.

  4. The fans always help motivate the home team, they will be better rested, and most teams are built somewhat with their home field in mind (e.g. left-handed power hitters in NY, right-handed power hitters in Boston), and the home team will always be more familiar with the park - the bounces and things like that.

  5. they cant win because they r not playing in front of their home crowd but some teams are winning on the road though

  6. Because they're poorly managed.

    Go Angels.

  7. Hmmmm, the Angels are wrecking on the road, I don't know why other teams can't

  8. Frankly i have never myself understood the criteria behind this, for example the Tampa Bay rays are 20 games over 500 at home and 5 games under on road.

I guess at home, with the crowd behind the team, players tend to elevate their game to send their fans home happy.

But i dont see any reason why teams shouldnt do that at road as well.

  9. they don't have any crowd support, staying in hotels, tired from flights, not used to the field

  10. Probably because of the stringent testing for amphetamines.  Tough to get energized for a game in the middle of a long road trip, sleeping in different hotel room every couple nights, taking a bus or taxi to the park, not being with your family.  Add on the fact that ballplayers can't take amphetamines anymore, and players at home get a huge advantage.

  11. The Brewers can.

  12. Umpires notoriously give beneficial calls to home teams while the home crowd plays a big part of it.  Teams are also much more comfortable playing at home because, well, they play there the majority of their games.

  13. It's probably a combination of fatigue of moving from one place to another, different time zones, unfamiliarity with the dimensions of the ballpark, just getting out of your routine can throw you off too, not to mention hostile fans.

Although the Angels have been doing a good job of quieting those hostile crowds.

  14. My Cards seem to be doing fine on the road with a winning record.
