  1. I'm pretty sure they can.

  2. Type O, being the universal donor, is able to donate blood to Type B person.

However, this is discouraged because Type O persons can only receive blood from Type O people. Therefore, it is better if the Type O blood is reserved only for the Type O people, to avoid lack of supply.

Giving Type O blood to a Type B person should only be allowed in worst-case scenarios, wherein a Type B person is badly in need of blood but there is a lack of Type B blood in the supply.

P.S. Type B blood is more expensive than Type O blood. I suppose that if the patient can afford it, it will benefit the hospital more if they encourage the patient to avail of Type B blood rather than Type O blood.

  3. The plasma from a type O individual naturally contains Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies.  Transfusion of type O plasma into a type B individual is incompatible -- the Anti-B in the plasma would attach to the Type B blood cells resulting in agglutination.  Type B individuals can only receive type B and type AB plasma.  AB plasma is the universal donor for plasma.

  4. To say that you have a certain blood "type" means that you have a certain protein content found on the surfaces of your red blood cells. Different blood types have different protein content. If one type was given to a person of another type, the immune system would see this as an invading "organism" and attack the red blood cells since it has a different protein content. Examining protein content of organisms and cells is how the immune system knows when it has to act to fight off an infection or not.

  5. O being the universal donor type, I would have to say that they COULD.

  6. non compatible blood types.
