Why can't You put onions in the compost pile?

  1. You can put onions in compost, sure.  Just cut them up so they don't sprout.

    Maybe you were reading about onions in vermicompost - that's usually a no-no as worms don't like the strong flavor/smell.

  4. I really dont know but onions have alot of acid and it is very strong. Maybe if yuo put it with the other vegatables the acid would cause something. Just to be on the safe side dont put them in so you dont ruin your compost pile.

  5. You can put onions in a compost pile. Any fruit or vegetables can be composted.

  6. You can put onions in the compost pile, however it is recommended that you chop them up into quarters or smaller. Otherwise, like potatoes they have a tendancy to resprout before they break down into compost, any you don't want plants growing in your compst.
