Why can't adults seem to understand skateboarding?

I mean, in most towns all you hear is... you can't skate here, go to a skatepark... well what if your town doesn't have a park, where do we go then? I mean, its just so stupid, if they think they have the right to kick us off of a skateboarding spot, they HAVE to provide us a spot to go to. if not, then they should have no right to tell us to leave. Just my opionion... I mean not every skateboarder waxes everything, and breaks things, not every skateboarder is a vandalizer, some are REAL about skateboarding, and don't want to lose that wonderful privelege to something as stupid as not being allowed to skate anywhere. And the people in city hall, not providing a place to skate, i mean i myself, and some of my friends went to the city hall meeting one month, and they had enough money to fund for another baseball field (which we already have 4 of!) but yet they cant even make us a skatepark of any size.

  1. Dude, I know what you mean, there is NOWHERE to skate near where I live, and i wish they would build a skate park.

I guess the only explanation is adults just aren't as badass or hardcore as us kids. =) =)

  2. They don't HAVE to provide you with anything.

They kick you out of the spots you are skateboarding in now because they don't want to be sued if you get hurt, not because they don't understand skateboarding.

  3. Because they're olddddd.

    And too safety-cautious.

  4. It sounds to me like you're mad about someone who doesn't want you loitering on their property.  It's not the skating that's the problem.  The city is not required to provide a skate park.  I agree that funds used for another baseball diamond could be just as well used on a skate park.  Don't expect the adults on the council to realize that on their own.  You must enlist the help of your parents and your friends to make it known that a skatepark is needed more than another ball field.  It's up to you to make it happen.

  5. I'm an adult(30) and  I understand, I still skate, and when I was a kid there was no such thing as a skate park. Now there is two in my city and one in almost every surrounding city. But I still show my son REAL street skating, the way I grew up. Going to one spot...gettin' kicked out then going to another spot, is just part of skating.......

I agree with the previous poster you need to get the support of your parents and friends parents to get a skate park built.Good luck!!

  6. Well, I'm an adult, not an old one though, only 28 and I will have to agree with the signs. I agreed with them when I was a kid as well. The reasoning is not only safety for the customers, but also it's an annoyance. I'm not saying you do it, but when skateboarders (young and old) are going past store fronts it becomes very loud along with they don't have consideration to get out of the way. There is no need to have to build a skate park because it is very expensive to do it. Go to an empty parking lot that is not ever being used or through the neighborhood away from houses. If it's allowed, possibly go to a school parking lot when school is not in session. Adults do have every right to put up these signs and not provide the parks because we are the ones working and paying all taxes for it. Once you get older, you will understand as well.
