LOL i mean if something was wrong with the plane while youre in the sky and even the pilot knew everybody would most likely die. I would want to take the chance and jump out and use my parachute pack and see if cant make it down safely. I know its a way fricken stupid question but i just found myself wondering about that.

  1. How many frigging times is this stupid question going to be asked?

Give your brain a chance and THINK!

No place to store them.  You die from lack of oxygen or freezing at altitude.  Too much extra weight from a couple hundred chutes on board.  By the time it's needed, the aircraft is already in many pieces.

  2. Think how long it takes the average person to learn to tie their own shoes!

  3. They actually exist for small single prop planes. But bigger planes would require a VERY large 'chute, and their higher speeds would probably rip them apart anyway.

  4. 'Cause no-one will know how to use 'em, I mean, look how long the safety demonstrations are on teaching you how to put on a LIFE JACKET! Also, fear is a big factor. Not everyone would have the guts to jump out of a jet which is screaming through the air (usually above 30,000 feet) at near Mach 1. Anyway, the aircraft would probably be ripped to bits and lose all its oxygen when the door is opened and passengers and crew alike would be sucked out of the door~

  5. Skydiving requires training. In addition to the other points already made, just the wind blast at 300-400 knots would render many unconscious. And, if the plane were out of control, the G forces would make it impossible for nearly everyone to even  make it close to the door.

  6. Not this question again!

Not enough room and passengers would not have the slightest idea how to use them. You would have better luck of surviving if you went down with the plane than you would have by jumping out of one at 30,000 feet up. If you didnt freeze to death the minute the door was opened, being sucked into the plane's engines would do it.

  7. 241 times asked but not a record.  At least you didn't ask "if the black box is indestructable why aren't airplanes made out of the same stuff?"  That's the dumb *** question of the century but it keeps coming up.  Believe it or not the question about the world ending in 2012 has been asked (so far) 7,368 times.

    .

Picture it.  35,000.00 ft over the Atlantic ocean.  One malfunctioning airplane and 300 passengers all in a panic, crying, screaming, and struggling to put on parachutes on themselves and their children  in a cramped cabin you can barely stand up in to begin with, and then the mad dash  climbing over and crushing women and children at the door who are too afraid to jump?

    .

Can you see how impractical this idea is?  Not just anyone can put on a parachute and jump out of an airplane.  You have to be well trained before you make your first jump and then it's under ideal conditions in good weather over a known drop zone.
