why can't chickens fly?

is it because of a missing organ?

or is it because of the wings?

  2. They originally could fly though, through domesticated breeding they are too heavy/weighty to fly,the longest recorded time in flight for a chicken flat-out was 13 seconds. Their bone structure is slightly different to that of wild fowl. That's basically why they can't.
    Certain breeds of chicken can fly/flutter more than others. The bantams/Arcana chickens can fly/flutter better than the heaver Rhode-land reds or Sussex chickens.
