Why can't combat aircraft be towed behind larger aircraft to distant mission sites so pilots are "fresher"?

  1. Highly impractical even if the "fresher" point is valid (which I don't believe it is).


  2. Concept sounds okay here are two glitches that I can think of off the bat:

    1.) Being towed means that you are in close proximity to another aircraft.  That's when the accident rates really accelerate.

    2.) The wind vortexes behind aircraft (especially large A/C) do not lead to stable flight conditions for the aircraft FOLLOWING in trail.

    Reality is that this could cause more problems than it would solve.

  3. I wonder what you would tow a B-52 with.  

  4. This was done with gliders in World War II, but fell out of practice when combat aircraft became capable of being refueled in mid-air.

  5. I think we already figured this one out when we started making aircraft carriers.
