Question:

Why can't dogs talk? Why can parrots talk but not dogs?

Do dogs not have the same vocal cords as parrots? My dogs seem so smart to me, but all they can do is whine and bark. I just got really curious all the sudden as to why. Is it an intelligence issue or a voice box issue?

  2. They do not have the same voice boxes as humans and therefore they cannot "talk." Parrots do not necessarily talk, they just copy the sounds that they have heard.

  3. Parrots do not talk.  They mimic human sound.  If they don't get constant reinforcement of the training they will loose it and have to be retrained.

No animal is intelligent, other that Homo sapiens.  It is not only an issue of anatomy, but one of evolution.   Your dog seems smart to you because you do something called transference, giving your dog your characteristics and traits.

  4. the truth is, no animals can speak human language. it requires too much complex movement of the mouth and tongue, and it is too much for animals to remember. also, a lot of animals (like dogs), don't have mouths that are suitable for forming words, they are in a shape that can't perform these tasks.

When parrots "talk", they aren't actually "talking". Parrots happen to be very good at something called mimicking. When parrots hear a new sound, like human language, they are able to mimic it and repeat if they want to. they also quite frequently do these with many other sounds, such as bird chirps, dog barks, sounds they could hear from a tv, or anything else you can think of.

    hope that helps!

  5. They have a wider range of vocal-production.  Some animals can only make certain noises.

Researchers have found that when attracting a mate, the more diverse and varied the notes and sounds are within the male parrot's(as well as many other birds) call, the more appealing they are to the females; vs a more monotone call which would have a lot less success.

If vocal production depended on intellect, you'd still be able to talk(without an artificial device) if your voice box got destroyed.  Which is not possible.

parrots talk because they have like something in their body like us. and dogs don't but dogs still can but in their own special way.
