Question:

Why can't drivers stop at the limit line for red lights?

Around this area (Silicon Valley), there are legions of mouth breathers who can't seem to grasp the concept of limit lines at intersections. They routinely stop more than a full car length behind the crosswalk/limit line, and I've seen numerous cases where they are a good 20-25 feet back. On more than one occasion, this has resulted in left lane arrows not turning, and that takes some doing, with the multiple sensors around here.

Having driven in many cities in the US, I just don't see this behavior elsewhere. What is it about the south bay that causes this unbelievably annoying foolishness? I can't even narrow down the demographics of the offenders at all, it seems to span the whole range of (incompetent) drivers.

  1. they are probably  taking it safe not wanting a ticket..cause dont they have camera's am i right? and i bet that is annoyin

  2. Well at least they seem to stop at the lights there. Here all the mouth breathers run them causing major accidents.

  3. That's wierd. It sounds like a localized drivaing habit. I live in Mass and most drivers here, including myself to some extent, often don't stop until we're either ON the line or even a couple of feet PAST it. I think in driving school they told me that you're supposed to stop 1 foot before the stop line.
