Why can't england managers just keep things simple?

In my opinion to get the best out of england you need to play a simple 4-4-2 and get rid of beckham and use bentley or ashley young instead, you can put becks on the subs bench for a last minute option coz of his passing ability.

my midfield would be

brown?(is questionable) ferdinand,terry,cole

joe cole,gerrard,barry,bentley or young

rooney

defoe or bent,

( i would of tried theo walcott coz he and rooney would be on the same wave length as they are a class above the rest of england players except for gerrard)

  1. james makes a good point.

but the idea of a friendly is to explore your opportunities, get some new faces in,  some will perform some wont.

but the ones that do will put a bit of pressure on the regular players hence causing a bit of competition..

simple fact is mate they ain't got the b a lls

  2. I would use younger players, like Walcott, Young and Agbonlahor

  3. i think it was good for him to test out some players in these friendlies becuase really you dont have anything to lose but after this game yesterday he should have some idea of a solid team, one that he will not change for a while and one that will in time learn to be a unit.

i totally agree with your idea aswell i think

    M Richards, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand

    Young, Bentley, Gerrard, Cole

    Rooney, Walcott

walcott has a deadly pass across the area. One that Rooney, gerrard or cole will most likely be on the end of. Yeah he doesnt have experience but i think he is more likely to score than F****ng HESKEY!!!!!

heskey was the stupidest call up in the history of stupid call ups lol. Almost as bad as calling up carson against croatia hahahah

  4. The problem with England is that they have over hyped players in the media and the manager who ever that may be feels pressurised to play them all together and has to find a formation to fit them in.

It doesn't work! Pick a formation and have the balls to drop some of the under performing "Stars".

Ether way the manager can't win he gets slated for playing people out of position, but he would get slated if he didn't play them at all!

  5. One things for sure is everybody wants Ashley Young to get his chance and Michah Richards looked like are best prospect a year ago, how come there not involved!?

Capello knows more then us and I'll trust the guy for the time being but leaving those two guys out who will probably be are best players maybe by 2010 is criminal.

    For what its worth

    James

    Richards Ferdinand Terry Cole

    Young Barry Hargreaves Cole

    Ashton Rooney.

  6. England managers have a lot of expectations from the media, fans, and everyone. So they end up doing weird stuff to try to win.

  7. Who cares!!!!!!!!

  8. You have to pick the players that perform good and play like a unit.

    i would play,

    1. James

    2. Glen Johnson

    5. Ferdinand

    26. Terry

    3. Cole

    7. Bentley

    11. Cole

    8. Gerrard

    4. Barry

    9.Heskey

    10. Rooney

    simple?

  9. i dont think the problem for england is the formation or even the players on the pitch, it is the fact that english players dont know how to pass and move off the ball. gerrard typifies the english style of play. when he gets the ball, he often tries to charge through the opposition, and just gets tackled. either that, or he tries a long ball, and that player doesnt have any support so they get isolated and lose it. that is the same with every england player. if they are to succeed they need to learn to actually play football. another thing is, aaron lennon is one of the quickest and most skillful players england has, but when he has played for england, he tends to run past several players but just get crowded out. it doesnt matter how many skillful players england has in their team, if they dont learn to move and give support and maintain tactical discipline, they will never be able to pass their way through teams. look at spain and germany, they did well in euro 2008 cos they were the best passers, they retain possession well and make space for each other. germany has slow players, but because they are comfortable dribbling and passing they get away with it. if you cant pass the ball, you cant get it in the goal. simple as that

  10. foster

    brown,fredinand,terry,cole (2 attacking side backs)

    hargreaves, gerrard, lampard, rooney

    crouch, agbolohor

  11. GK: Hart

    RB: Micah/Johnson/Warnock

    CB: Terry

    CB: Ferdinand

LB: Cole/Warnock (dunno why he isn't chosen more often)

    RM: Bentley

    CM: Gerrard/Lampard

    CM Barry/Hargreaves

    LM: Young

    SS: Cole

    CF: Rooney

  12. everyone agrees it's time to put in certain players, the old guard have had numerous chances and need to make way because last nights rubbish was the same dreadfull stuff we have been getting for years. bentley, richards, and ashley young, along with wallcot really need to start a few games.

  13. If I were manager I would do a lot better than any of our current so-called pros. I would forget all the player-club politics and play the BEST eleven, not the most popular like our last few managers have made the mistake of doing.

    GK: D James

RB: M Richards (Brown? Don't make me laugh.)

CB: J Carragher (Get him out of retirement.)

    CB: J Woodgate

    LB: A Cole

    CM: S Gerrard (C)

    CM: G Barry

    CM: J Cole

    CF: W Rooney

    CF: P Crouch

    CF: J Defoe

In my opinion Ferdinand, Terry and Beckham get into the team on their name and club, not their football ability. Give me Carragher and Woodgate over Rio and Terry any day of the week, and I'd much rather SWP, Ashley Young or Aaron Lennon over David Beckham as well. He wouldn't even be in my squad.

Call me crazy, but are the current tactics and squad working? Nope.

  14. When you manage England you are put under extreme pressure to pick the team that Fleet Street wants you to pick, so you either pick those that the press like, or face getting rapidly stabbed in the back

  15. My team;

    James

    G.Johnson, Ferdinand, Woodgate, A. Cole

    Young, Carrick, Gerrard, Bridge

    Owen, Ashton

That team give us shape and balance, it's not the best players but i think it's the best team.

Last nights team lacked pace and wingers, and with Wes Brown at right back our right wing was non existant. Beckham can't run, Bentley is vastly overated and Lennon and Milner can't cross so we need to put Ashley Young there.

I don't know where Wayne Rooney plays, Capello doesn't know and neither does Rooney himself. He needs to pick a postition and stick to it! He hasn't done anything good for England since 2004 and is only in the team based on the star name principle.

If Gerrard doesn't improve i would drop him to for a young player with hunger and desire like Michael Johnson.
