Question:

Why can't hairdressers cope with fine hair?

I love to get my hair done, but the end result is always disappointing because my hair is baby fine. At home I load it up with volumising products, back comb it and fix it with hairspray. In the salon they load it up with conditioner which just makes it even slipperier and more impossible to style, blow dry it flat to my head and don't spray it, so that by the time I have gone two steps from the salon it looks like thin rats-tails. Fine hair needs a specialist approach - loads and loads of product on it to take away the silkiness, and definately not to be blow dried flat to the head! Then you have to 'seal the moment' with hair spray - otherwise you just wasted all of your time. Why can't hairdressers deal with this? Fine hair isn't like normal people's hair. It is really impossible to style. If I was a man I would just get my head shaved, but that isn't really an option for me as a woman.

  1. when you sit in the chair or even before have a heart to heart look them in the eye and explain yourself like you did for us. show more hurt than frustration and you will get results.

    say :

"i really need to find someone i can return to, someone who can make my fine hair look as great as i know it can. i dont want to have a flat, lifeless style. "

flat hair is always "in" these days they need reminding that not everyone prefers this.

remember if you do not communicate with him/her and let them know what you expect and are trying for you dont see the results you want. bring a pic of the sort of volume you want (with your hair type) :)

  2. Hi!!!

I don't no where you've been going girl but to be honest i think you need to change your hairdressers!!! Passionate hairdressers love all hair thick thin, long short!!

Your 100% right fine hair needs special attention and lots and lots of hard product i.e hair sprays, volumizing mousses and sprays and texturizing pastes!!. fine hair does not need dollops of conditioner! as it will make it greasy and unmanageable you feel worse leaving then when you went in!!

Unless the only thing you hate about your hairdressers is the styling, but other then that the cut and colour is all good, maybe you need to talk to your hairdresser before hand....tell them how you like your hair and how you style it, they won't get offended at all (unless they think they know everything!! and in this job you are forever learning! every-ones hair is different and everyone screams out for originality!!)

if it annoys you girl, maybe you should look into a volumizing perm you can get these without the curl and mainly all on the roots! Also fine hair loves layers, layers thicken the hair out and gives it the extra textured look!

    hope i helped =P

  3. they just can t cope hair up there try another salon after all

  4. Well, if you have long hair, getting it cut shorter would make it look a lot thicker but if you want to keep the length you could layer it more, and use the right products.

  5. Maybe you need to go to a more expensive salon.

  6. They can't cope with (my) thick hair, either! Maybe they just can't cope?

  7. Theyt can't seem to cope with my relatively thick hair either...

I think they treat all hair the same =l

I like lots of volume in mine, I have to do the whole hairspray thing as well otherwise it goes flat quickly n like a rats tail! But when they blow dry my hair it goes all over the place and has no style at all...I dont understand.

  8. You must be going to the wrong salon. Try a more upmarket one.
