  1. Perhaps its because your dvd player might only take dvd+r's.

Refer to manual if you still have it.

  2. your dvd player may not play the dvd-r discs either look in the user manual it should tell you which dvds are compatable or look up it on google and try the find the model on there you may get the info on there. Have you tried a dvd + r to see if it works.

    good luck

  3. When the recordable DVD systems were developed the first one was DVD-R. This was intended to be playable on domestic DVD players but in practice few were able to play them.

The DVD+R system was developed as an attempt to produce something more compatible with standard domestic players. It was generally more successful than DVD-R in the compatibility stakes.

These days all burners will record on both standards and modern players will play them.

So, if your DVD player is more than about 7 years old it will defiantly be liable to have problems with DVD-R but may be fine with DVD+R.

It will certainly not be able to play DVD-RAM, which is a very special standard that's becoming more common with computer based burners. If you buy a new player look for one that will play DVD, CD, Video-CD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DivX, DVD-RAM. Don't worry about Blu-ray yet. It's still expensive and will be a lot cheaper in a few years.

    Hope this helps.
