this is something that has been happening to me since i was about 5 years old. I am now 30.

While I am sleeping, i am aware of everything going on in the room but i can't wake up. i feel like i am awake but i can't open my eyes i can't move, i can't breath right. and i am trying to get myself to wake up. sometimes it happens more then once a night, sometimes i can go months where it does not happen at all. i use to tell my mom "i got stuck in my sleep"

sometimes i feel like i am being smothered.

so i wondered if anyone has ever experienced anything like this and can tell me what is going on

  1. everyone has it its a hypnotic trance-like state as you come out of a deep sleep you are recognising your partly awake and brain is trying to make sense of it, or you could maybe have sleep apnoea as long as you are otherwise physically well no breathing troubles once you wake,  etc then I'd say its ok.

  2. It sounds like you have the same thing that I have.  Two years ago I found out that I had a low amount of B12 in my system so it was always making me sleepy and when I would try to wake up I couldn't.  The more that I kept trying to wake up it would just cause a panic attack which would just make things worse.  Though I never really knew that I was having a panic attack at all.

Not to freak you out but it has only been getting worse to where now when I'm awake I will have all day panic attacks thinking about how I couldn't wake up.

I think you should go see a doctor and let them know what is going on.  It might sounds weird telling them that you were stuck in your sleep but they will know what to do to help you out the best they can!!

    Good luck!!

  3. that is exactly me. im not even kidding. you know everything thats going on and sometimes like do sleep actions where you stand up or start talking and you know you are doing it but you can't get yourself to stop. like you are kinda half awake i guess is a way to put it. and you feel insanely tired in the morning from it too right ? because you feel like you techniqually were awake the whole time but you kinda weren't either. ahhhhhhhh i know what your feeling and i have no idea why it happens either. a lot of times its just that so much is on your mind that you cant control it and that it comes out in real life a little. im sorry if any of that makes sense. but i feel what you feel. i havent had that happen to me in a while. it usually happens when im really nervous for something the next day.

    hope that was kinda understandable.

    xxxoxo

  4. I'm not sure but this has happened to me several times. It's like I wake up, and I can see my room, but I can't move my arms or legs. Their like locked as if my brain registers them as "still asleep" even though I am already awake.

Another weird thing is sometimes when I fall in my dream, I wake up instantly, but my brain still registers "my body falling" so it like defends itself, and I twitch violently and try to grab something even though I'm lying on my bed.

    Hope this helps some

  5. You might be suffering from something called sleep paralysis which occurs as a natural part of REM sleep. This happens when your brain wakes up from the REM sleep but you body stays in paralysis (The reason that you body goes into paralysis is so that you body don't act out the action of you dreams). If you do suffer from sleep paralysis just be glad that you don't suffer the hallucinations that most people see which vary from shadows, laughs of a old woman or even seeing the old creepy woman or "old hag" as most people refer to it some people.

By the way sleep paralysis is not rare and almost everybody has it at one point in there life.
