I found my bird a cockatiel at the bottom of my bird cage lying on it's side strugling to get up. His legs and wings seem paralyzed , he can only move his head around and i can still feed him. Any idea what might be wrong with him or what i can do? Thanks

  1. It sounds like that your cockatiel has an internal problem. It could be anything from a tumour to an imbalance of electrolytes or nutritional. Because its most likely an internal problem its very hard to tell without a vet.

Best that you can do for now is to keep your bird warm at the bottom of the cage, if you have a heat pad, or if you don't, a lukewarm hot water bottle wrapped in a thick towel on one side of the cage, but make sure that the bird doesn't gnaw on it. Next, which this is the most important part, is that you should take the bird to a vet. If you have a vet that specializes in birds or if not, just your regular vet will do.

  2. I'm not sure if this will help but some exotic birds can come down with Bumble Foot. This occurs when a bird perches on the same sized dowel for long periods of time. All exotic birds should have three different sized dowels in their cage.

  3. It could be anything. Have you got anything where he could have gotten his feet caught and/or broken them? Also, have you got different types of stcks for him? If you don't it could be his feet growing to match the stick which causes hard walking and/or flying. It could also be something internally. He might have eaten something which has caused a blockage in his body or he might have a tumor. He might have even fallen and hurt itself badly and can't move. Honestly, there are too many reasons to list. Your vet will have the absolute correct answer for you, so make an appointment with him/her. Sorry if i dissapointed you but i hope i helped. Also, is he old, if so Sorry but it might be his time. Dont however, get upset by anything i may have said. Also untill you meet with your vet, cover the cage and lay a heat pad to keep him warm or you might even try bringing him inside till he goes to the vet.

Cheers and i hope all goes well!!!

  4. THey might be broken see your local vet
