  1. "FSX" is a computer game, so your question should be posted in the "GAMES" section where it correctly belongs.  The "AIRCRAFT category is for questions about real aircraft, not pretend ones from a computer game.  Lets try to reserve this section for questions about real aircraft, and not clutter it up with computer game questions.

  2. If you have not already done so, right-click on the .cfg file you are trying to edit and select the Windows Notepad in the "Open With..." option. If you continue to experience the same issue you are experiencing now, you may want to refer your question to the computer section. I have never experienced what you are describing, so I can't provide any further assistance. Sorry.

  3. This may be above your tech level as you can get into trouble without a little more help than I can give you here.  You need to understand the existence and concept behind filename extensions.  Your question suggests that you do not.

.cfg files are not associated by default with any application and cannot be opened as other data files that you may be used to.

The data contained within them is simple text and can be edited best with the notepad application.

Start notepad, and then FILE-OPEN from there.  Select file type as wildcard *.* and navigate to the location of the cfg file you wish to edit.

Take care, after editing and saving the file, because windows may want to "help" you and save the file renamed as .cfg.txt if you are not careful.  That change will make the filename unrecognized by flight sim so you will have to rename it to .cfg before your changes will work.

You may need to go into file options and turn off the "Hide extensions for known file types" to access the filename extension -which is way off topic for this so you may get to go ask another question in a computers / windows section about file extensions.
