  1. Spellings weren't set for a long time.  Shakespearian spellings are not the same as today's, nor was there consistency in spelling in colonial times.  Spelling evolves just as pronunciation does in a living language, and there are local variants in spelling and pronunciation in both the UK and the USA, not to mention Australia, NZ, South Africa, and other places with a preponderance of native English speakers.

  2. really?? you invented it , you are that old? you sat down together and came up with an amazing language?  amazing that you were personally involved in that process. As if you had any friggin thing to do with it!  The british were not so terribly original  considering your language is derived from  Latin (which was changed to create many languages including your precious English) You, Sirs, are proof that the common misconception that a British accent is a sign of intelligence is just that, a misconception.. I love proper English, i think it sounds wonderful and so much better than American English, but to insult Americans because their language is derived from yoursis hypocritical & just feeds our worlds tendency to attack others for differences. I didn't steal your language, someone along time ago came from -your- country and changed it for their benefit, and I was born here hundreds of years later and have no control over it. In fact there is no one still alive that had anything to do with it, so let it go. you are no better than the uneducated morons in america who still fight over who started the civil war when none of them are guilty either.

  3. We got rid of the lame accents, too.  Cheerio, matey.

  4. I think the word properly is the same which ever side of the atlantic it is said or written.

  5. some people are just dumb and cant spell anyway.

  6. They just spell in a different way.

  7. YEAH! And they drive on the wrong side of the road also.!!

  8. they CAN spell properly... they spell american english.. different spellings and it is arguably a different language.

they have their own dictionary and they have their own rules.... so they DO spell properly according to their own rules.

sorry mate... i am british too and i know where you are coming from but jeez mate... educate yourself before you slag off others!

  9. I think it's insulting to our American cousins to say that they can't spell properly.

English spelling is continually changing and is a mixture of several languages that have changed over the years, the Americans have just changed it to suit themselves and good luck to them, their spelling is usually simpler anyway.

By the way I'm Welsh, and our language is purer and older than both.

  10. there are some words they spell differently to us, thats why sometimes if we post a question, they correct the spelling their way, which isnt our way, if we were all the same, earth would be a boring place, so live and let live

  11. They spell properly for Americans speaking American English. I fail to see the problem with their spelling colour as color or any of the rubbish you seem to be complaining about.

  12. cos we only let the thickos leave

  13. That's because first English speakers in America who decided to stay there for good were not exactly University graduates except just a small group of them. Thus they have simplified language and made the spelling closer to how the words actually sound.

  14. We invented it anyway so they aren't talking english if its not the same.

  15. It's called American and therefore not English. However some of the errors and spellings from British contributors have me wondering at the education system we have today.

  16. The languages have evolved separately. Sometimes the Americans changed the spelling, sometimes it was us. For example, the word used to be spelt "tire" on both sides of the Atlantic. It comes from a shortening of "Attire": i.e. the dress that wheels wear. It was only during Victoria's reign that us British changed the spelling to "tyre".

  17. Plough used to be spelled "plow" so arguably the US spelling is more correct, so why not use US spellings? They are easier and simpler.

  18. A: In case you haven't noticed.  American grammar is different from British grammar.  That's why colour is spelt color.

B:-  Lots of people regardless of where they come from can not spell properly.

    C.  Some people suffer from dyslexia.

  19. They have copyed our language and personlized it and called it theirs.

  20. They have their own language American English !
