Question:

Why can't people enjoy their vacation and leave us alone? ?

I have a certain friend that just went to Rhode Island for a vacation, yet she's on Mobile IM all day talking to me and telling people to IM/text her. The point of a vacation is to get away from where you live and to relax. Why waste the precious hours of the few days you have talking to people back home? You're supposed to be out there having fun!

Does anyone else notice this problem? Why can't they just leave us alone and enjoy their vacation?

  1. I think it is all part of people's need to "stay connected" to friends, family and their work, wherever they go.  Today, there are so many tools (IM, cell phones, blackberry, etc.), that often, people just can not help themselves.  It is a very sad commentary on life today, that people simply don't know how to relax anymore.

In the old days (barely 10 years ago, lol), if you wanted to call someone when you were away from home, you had to use a pay phone.  These days, you can't even find a payphone!  The phone company has taken most of them out of service because everyone has a cellphone (some people carry more than one cell phone).

I think we are our own worst enemy when it comes to technology!  Information and the ability to communicate with anyone, anywhere, at any time, has become too easy, and people can't even think about "getting away", because even if they do get away, they are still connected.  People don't want to miss out on any slice of information they may miss if they are not "tuned in".  This is just my theory of course, but I know exactly what you are saying!

  3. They are unhappy in life...vaca or home doesn't matter.
