Why can't people tickle themselves?

It seems like it only tickles when one person tickles another person.

  1. I guess because you know it's coming, when normally people tickle you when you are off guard. And the touch is different?(Just a guess) Why would you want to tickle yourself anyway... o.0

  3. I've answered this question before, but it basically has to do with the element of surprise. I'd add control, too...if you try to tickle yourself, it's not as effective because you're in control of it. I actually *can* tickle myself, if I choose a really sensitive spot and do it for a set amount of time, not stopping no matter how much I want to. That "tricks" my brain enough to cause a tickling sensation, although it's not as intense as when someone else does it.

  4. HHAHAHAAHAH probably because your body is expecting it and you know it's coming so it doesn't come as a shock or suprise sensation to you.
