My husband cannot float in water. On his back or on his stomach. His feet start to go to the bottom. How come he can't float? Is he doing something wrong?

  1. maybe he's not relaxing enough. SOme people can (Like me) . Maybe it's becuase of how much they weigh, and such. I know fat and muscle have a lot to do with it.

  2. some people have more body fat then others.fat floats

  3. Gas.Eat more potatoes.

  4. Does he know how to swim? All he has to do is relax and breath normally.

  5. It is called buoyancy. Some people, such as African Americans lack in this. It is hereditary.

  6. I have often wondered this also. My brother can't float on his back. I always tell him to just relax and his feet will pop back up, but they never do. But I don't think he is really relaxing. I don't know.

  7. Your hubby may have a low concentration of body fat.  Fat floats.  Muscles and bones sink.  Also, your hubby may not be inflating his lungs with a lot of air.  The more air you have in your lungs, the better your float.  So as you exhale, you'll start to sink in the water.  Breathe in and you rise.

  8. Fat floats, muscle sinks.

That's why men tend to be less bouyant than women.

I'm a gym bunny, so I can lie down on my back on the bottom of the pool.  Makes swimming harder work, though.

  9. Tell him to let his muscles relax

  10. If your floating on your back and breathing at the same time you'll sink..

  11. I bet if you knock him off and throw him in the river he'll float after a while. Tell him to take a deep breath and fill his lungs while laying on his back in the water and try that. People are heavier that water and will sink unless there's air in you to keep you boyant. Nobody can just float without doing this.

  12. inertia, aka balance. Light weight, not hefty float better..

  13. the more fat you have on your  body determines how easily you can float. a person that is lean and has more muscle than fat..will not float easy...muscle is more dense and   weighs more..where fat is less dense and floats..you fat..you float..you skinny..you sink

  14. My son is the skinniest kid around, and he can float. The real trick is to lean your head way back, so far that the water's on your forehead. Your head is a big heavy thing, and when you try to keep it out of the water, it forces the other end of your body deeper.

And don't worry if your hands and feet aren't right at the surface, it's your body which needs to float. Let your hands and feet dangle down. Time your breathing as you bob up and down so you don't empty your lungs as you're going down, or else you'll go a little deeper.

  15. Everybody can. Everybody is capable of doing it. Not everybody knows how.

  16. hahahahaha...

    Oh my oh my...

I float since I am a little boy... thanks to my childhood with plenty of warm ocean and cents of swimming pools I went to.

    Everybody floats.

The trick is to balance yourself in the water.

You have to be very calm and concentrate.

I advise to hold the breath as much as you can in the beginning (like I did when I was kid) and slowly regain respiration.

Also helps if you feet are even together.

Hold your head backwards and keep only eyes, nose & mouth out and keep lookin at the sky, meanwhile you concentrate and relax, feel the ocean (if you can have a ocean) like a organism that is involving you with care and love, interact, listen with your ears (submerged) the sound from the water (motor boats, clicks that come from shells, fish), and most important of all open your arms like Jesus Christ Our Savior, cause if you don't it's difficult to keep the balance or not possible at all.

Try to hold (you wife) your husband lower back with just one hand (or both if you find difficult), meanwhile he exercises the concentration, relaxing stuff.

After several times you slowly take your hands off and leave him alone.

I hope it helps, but remember everyone can float.

Better if you guys start in the ocean cause the salty water makes it easier to float.

Good floating and Peace be with you.

    :-)
