Why can't some people have any American patriotism???

It bothers me. Many of my fellow teenagers don't realize how lucky they are to live in America and how we have so many great rights and opportunities as Americans. I understand if you don't like the president, but regardless he is our president and you should still respect him. In other countries people would probably get their head chopped off for the things some people say. I am so thankful for the rights I have as an American. I love every bit of it. I love being able to say what I like and to worship how I like and have so many opportunities. I'm so thankful it all. I'm thankful for all the people who died for the rights we all have today. Thank you soliders. Thank you everyone that tries to make a difference. I love America. Happy Independance Day!

You'll need to define what you mean by patriotism. To be critical of someone who many believe to be one of the worst presidents (if not the worst) in the nation's history is not unpatriotic.

Because the times are changing. We are at the crossroads and the people are catching onto the manipulation by the Ruling Elite. Corporate America has a problem now. The change will be the greatest struggle and it is just beginning.

Hon, i know where you are coming from.You sound like me.It may not be the correct way to say this but lots of people are just born without a conscience & care only about what they think & want.Sort of like serial killers are.They don't CARE & most likely never will.I know it's awful but it takes all kinds to make a world,we know that.Just live your own life & pray they change the way they are.Sounds like you have a happy life.I'm truly glad for you.Take care.

I respect the office of the President, it is the person in the office that does not have my respect. As for my patriotism don't ever question that. Yes there are people in this country who do not realize what they have and will never realize until they lose it.

yes Betty as a Brit who visits USA all over very often your patriotism is excellent and you love your flag its showing everywhere, Here in Britain its been known for a person to be arrested for hanging the union flag in a position the planners don't like so think yourself lucky you live in a free country,I love your country also

They have never lived anywhere else, so they don't know what it is like. Let's see them live in a place like Iraq during Saddam's regime and see them come crying home to America.

Because they havent made a movie or TV show about a patriotic teen. If the media says teens should be patriotic, they'd do it. To them, thats only for old people. They only care about the small picture (friends, boy/girlfriends, family, school) They really dont comprehend how lucky they are to be in America. Its something you learn to appreciate. They just havent gotten there yet. Luckily, you have.

Great question and a very good point!  I was talking to the owner of a local market yesterday hes from Bangladesh and he made the same point exactly.  Not just about teenagers but about many people that visit his store and gripe and whine about America and Bush.  He said they just do not realize what a great country we live in and how lucky we all are. He said it made him sad to see so many ungrateful people who have everything but appreciate nothing.---
