I got a new digital camera that had to take a special lithium battery that cost over $40 for the battery and charger and then I have this thing that is not made anywmore and guess what it takes a special battery too that they don't make anymore. Why can't everything just take batterys that are always made??

  1. That is why I bought myself a digital camera with the regular batteries. I also invested in buying myself a $15 [1 hour] charger for the batteries, which also included four rechargable batteries. I bought these about a year ago, and its all still in great condition!!

Next time you buy a digital camera, make sure it has the regular batteries! Mine cost $88...couldn't be more happy with it!!! Its a sanyo btw, bought it at Walmart.com.=]

  2. Two reasons.

    1. Electronics designers always want everything to be small and light. If they get their way with product design managers, they are allowed to specify nonstandard batteries to fit a particular form factor.

    2. Companies can make profit from selling you proprietary batteries. Sales and Marketing don't want you buying Duracells if they can sell you their own brand.

  3. They just do. Especially for batteries that are rechargeable. They pay for themselves overtime just like a hybrid car does. Thats how it is with cell phones, laptops, camera's, just about anything thats rechargable takes special lithium batteries that are expensive to replace.

  4. Because its expensive and a hassle to always buy new batteries, not to mention how bad it is for the environment to keep throwing out dead batteries. If you just buy one rechargeable battery, it will pay for itself in the money you save from not buying batteries.
