Question:

Why can't teens start out with a sports/performance car?

Like my question says, why cant teens start out with a sports car? Everyone always says that teens are too immature or can't handle the power of that type of car.

But if you are mature and your a teen, then you can start out with a sports car and just get used to with the power and get used to how to drive stick. I dont know why there is always a problem when teens are mentioned with cars like STI, 350z, s2000, evo, r32, and other performance cars. If your mature and get used to driving stick and dont drive like an idiot regardless of insurance prices, then your fine.

Am i right or wrong? someone help?

  1. Even though it sounds like you don't think insurance has a part to play well, it actually does. It's the insurance.  You may be able to drive, but statics show that teens get into more accidents (not paying attention to surroundings, texting while driving, etc.) and there for increases the insurance. Insurance on a sedan is cheaper than that on a sports car. Also, who would be paying for the sports car, you or your parents. Either way a nice sports car is a right of passage..you need to go through the junkers before you are rewarded with a nice one.

  2. Honey I dont mean to be a stick in your mud but your wrong. Maturity wise, motor skills wise and logically your not prepared or nor capable for a car of that stature. No matter how much you may argue the fact that you are.... your not. The moment you get one of your " Buddies" in the car and hit the road, the temptations to " hot rod " the car and impress your friends will be there. To many young men have killed themselves because of these " fast " cars, and that was due to immaturatity and lack of skills behind the wheel. Now I dont doubt that your a mature young person. I am sure you are, but there is still that impulse and we all still make that mistake when we have something fast under our butts. Give it sometime and save some money. So when you do get in your mid 20's you can get a really good " hot " car and not worry about insurance ( which by the way b 4 25 for a man is high ) and ride in style.

    Good luck kiddo!

  3. its not that you cant, its just that its not recommended.  its better to get experience with a more standard car, then move up. you save on insurance and potentially save a car.  you wont worry about getting scrapes and the like if it was a beater. and its not all about maturity. its about experience and how much money you can lose.. all those cars are very drivable by any new driver.  they dont really take more skill than a 5 spd civic.  its just that if something does happen, the bill will be huge. most cars drive the same.

  4. i just turned 18 and I drive a twin turbocharged RX7 FD. I always speed and never obey traffic laws. So there's your answer. lol

  5. You are wrong.Teens are too immature to drive high performance

cars. The statistics don't lie. You kill yourself at much higher rate

than in regular cars. In a nearby city a 17 year old was driving his

father's Porsche going 150 mph on a city street at midnight. He hit a telephone pole so hard that the car exploded. The traffic investigators had to recover pieces of the car for three blocks around the scene.

They said it was more like a plane crash. That is why you aren't

allow to drive them. The number of teens who are 'mature' are slim

    to none.

  6. "If your mature and get used to driving stick and dont drive like an idiot regardless of insurance prices, then your fine."

I think you answered your own question, bud.

I had a Trans Am GTA for my first vehicle, and got plenty of tickets. It was because I drove like a jacka** at times.

There are plenty of responsible teens with sports cars, however... it's the ones who are not responsible that account for your high insurance premiums. That won't change any time soon.

I have often thought that insurance companies should apply a "one strike" policy toward teen drivers. That is, if you can prove you can go without a violation until you're 21, your rates will stay the same as someone 21 or older (you don't really get your best rate 'til you're 25 or older). However, get that first violation, then you're up for the higher rates. It would be a good deterrent, and I'm sure parents would harp on it daily to try and keep their teens safe.

  7. Using the SE like google or yahoo to get some hints first if you want to obtain the massive information,if you do not want to spend too much time, here is a good resource for your reference about your questions.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  8. Well the truth is, this is all done with statistics, kids get into more accidents, its just how it is. I've owned 2 of the cars on your list, and have driven and owned many sports cars, I can tell you even though i've never been in an accident (on file :)), I can tell you that kids don't want sports cars so they can go speed limit, i know i didn't. I had a 450whp mr2, when i was 19 and I didn't have 450whp and meth injection because i wanted to drive maturely (it spent pretty much all my money and time).

  9. I think that's a little TOO much power to be put into the hands of new drivers. I'm nervous enough driving my mom's little tempo, and it only goes up to 80. Although it's great to try to learn to drive stick, I'd suggest that be done in Grampy's old pick-up.

  10. "Everyone always says that teens are too immature or can't handle the power of that type of car." That's because it's true.

Teens have less experience behind the wheel. They don't understand that a car isn't just a way to transport people, it's a 2 ton KILLING MACHINE. You think you can just expect people to trust you with something like that? Before you start making demands, you need to show that you have the capability to handle a high performance car....

  11. you are way wrong. they say the more you know, the less you speak, and theres alot more you need to know.

its not only suggested but PROVEN scientifically that 16 year olds can't handle the experience of driving, let alone do it with a super powerful performance car. Have you tried driving those things? it takes time to perfect your driving. one mistake, and your DEAD in the car- Rather when you drive a smaller, safer car, you still have a chance of being alive.

Look at the statistics and face them. you are another one of them, and no matter how mature you think you are, your brain isn't finished developing,  theres more growing to go until you can say you can handle a performance car.

  12. Having been a tennager once myself, I can tell you that teenagers are neither mature enough or experienced enough to handle a high performance vehicle. I had a 1965 GTO when I was 17 and when you have 400 horsepower at your disposal, you want to use all of it. Also, insurance costs on a young driver are already high, with a performance car, they go through the roof. Insurance companies understand the risks.
