Why can't the Olympic organizing body give medals for people finishing after the bronze?

I mean these people who finish lower than 3rd place have worked their butts off for th past 4 years too, so I was thinking... why not award them something... anything... just so they can go back to their day jobs with something around their neck to show for.

I suggest the following medals for the "loosing" parties.

4th place - Copper medal

5th place - Aluminum medal

6th place - Plastic medal

7th place - Cardboard medal

8th place - No medal, just a certificate saying they were at the Olympics, but didn't do sheet.

  1. you're right. Canada should get one of those little g*y ribbons that the fat loser kids in school get for just showing up.  or perhaps each of their 330 pathetic athletes can get a scratch and sniff sticker for participating?

  2. because anything beyond 3rd is basically sheeet, they should be given dunce hats

  3. Ha ha ha funny guy!

    Because they simply lost/suck!

  4. becauseyouramotherfuckerhead

  5. You are kidding right?  You must be one of those people that thinks you should give trophies to all of the teams in a Little League too.  The reality of life is, there are winners and there are losers.  Anything beyond 3rd place would dilute the competition and make it much less interesting for those watching, and less rewarding for those competing.  I can tell you from experience, when I was a kid, I placed 6th in an event at a track meet.  They gave me a ribbon which promptly went into the trash.  People who participate in athletics and work their butts off, still feel a sense of accomplishment in the Olympics.  Even if they finish less than 3rd place, they know they are in the top 8 or so in the world at that event.  Let's not coddle them with awarding insignificant "feel-good" awards.

  6. I love the cardboard medal idea. Classic.
