Truman granted the islands independence in 1946 but why without a vote? I see that as being unofficial and the Philippines should still be ours.

  1. No.  The plan was to give them independence long before 1946.  Before Pearl Harbor, the Philippines were on their way to independence (The Tydings-McDuffie Act (officially the Philippine Independence Act; Public Law 73-127) approved on March 24, 1934).

Their chief military adviser from 1937 - 1941 was Douglas MacArthur.

Therefore, it was voted back in 1934 and sign into law by FDR.

  2. Ask McCain, he has been in favor of every other war.  I'm sure he would be in favor of retaking gthe Phillippines, possible Japan, Russia and China.  He especially has a grudge against the Vietnamese.

  3. Look at your history. The USA wants to be the "good" guy, and "good" guys, are not Imperialistic - though like everybody else, they want things their way - a way that often does change after an election year, since we are a Representative Democracy that strives to support freedom, despite the unreasonableness of humans in general. That was the "right" thing to do, by one of the last good Democratic presidents of the USA. You realize Truman was more Conservative than any current Republicans?

  4. dude,chill  ...we do not want the phillippines........now ,I can understand wanting mexico and the rest of the continent...ye ow,be intelligently consistent in empire building.
