  1. Because technology doesn't support it yet.  Cooking oil is oil, and releases more pollution than traditional fuels.  Alcohol production requires electricity, which is produced by burning oil.  Air compression and hydrogen isolation have the same limitation.

We have to have technology before congress can enforce its use.

  2. You simply don't understand how government works.

The tendency is for government to protect the status quo.  Had they been as pervasive and heavy handed a hundred years ago as you want them to be today, it would have been more likely to protect the horse-and-buggy industry.

That's why they won't do what you want.  They'd be more likely to ban alternatives than ban oil.

Alternatives will come on their own, as long as the government doesn't interfere.  Think about that, and whether you want a powerful government, because a powerful government is more likely to annoy you than benefit you.

  3. Too much money invested on oil these days and you'll run car companies out of buisness, making them redesign a whole fleet of cars costs tens of billions of dollars, it may just put us into a global depression.

  4. they cann't manage to understand ....THEY R NOT AHEAD OF NATURE>>>>

n that in case of sum disaster they 'll last... for they r special one's........ [:(]

    pity abt them............

although the real law makers ...US etc... r strong enough (they think) to hv a ryte on last drop of oil....[:)]

I hope smthing gud happens soon

the alternatives that u give r even  harsh to nature jss as pettrol/deisel....

but yes... v r nw able to have clean fuel for all... the clean source of energy....

    v have that in abundance....

    I appriciate the question....

  5. Great idea -- you want to FORCE every American who owns a car or truck to buy a new vehicle?  Tell you what -- go down into the inner city and try to sell that bill of goods.  See how many people living below the poverty line are willing to spend $30,000.00 or more that they don't have just so they can keep their driving privileges.  Better yet, go to Hollywood and see how many limousine liberals you can convince to buy non-oil cars for those who are less fortunate...

  6. Because that's called socialism...  why shouldn't people who are willing to pay for oil product be allowed too?...  also, if you knew anything about economics you would realize that the government doesn't NEED to do anything like that...  as supply for oil decreases and demand increases, oil prices will continue to rise...  high oil prices have already driven down demand for fuel in-efficient vehicles and spurred devolopment of alternative fuel technology (just ask General Motors)...  it  is likely that this market shift will accomplish what your law would in about the same amount of time...

  7. economy would collapse.

  8. Great question, but asked in a way that tells me you really know the true answer, but are wondering why "government" hasn't done that yet. If its our govt. you refer to, then its because the majority is not convinced that's the right thing to do...yet.  ie...WE are the govt...

You know, the democratic process tries to answer for ALL of us, those with shares in oil companies, those whose family lives depend on paychecks from the big oil companies...literally tens of thousands of individuals...many not quite unlike those who all lost their jobs/life-savings when Enron collapsed a few years back...Now, they all had to find work somewhere else...not an easy task sometimes...bills to pay, school books to buy etc...

If its another govt. you refer to, prolly the same reasons...its fully integrated into every facet of our daily lives now...research what things are created from oil...Oh, and good things take time.

  9. Its not that they cant, they wont, because of big oil Lobbyist, and auto maker lobbyist. I see more of the same. The only way to force change is when the public itself shifts. The government sold us out. And I mean both sides.

  10. And what Article and Section of the Constitution enumerates the government with the power to inact such a ban?

  11. Because the politicians are all in bed with the oil companies!  Plain and simple!

  12. The problem is that all the other ways to run a vehicle are heavily derived from oil anyway.

Cooking oil is created by putting certain crops into a press(there are other processes, but the process isn't important). The problem is, food products are produced in large quantities using nitrogen fertilizer, which is derived from fossil fuels.

Alcohol is created by fermenting food products in yeast, then distilling the result to acquire the alcohol. Again, the problem is food products are produced in large quantities using nitrogen fertilizer, which is derived from fossil fuels.

Hydrogen is most economically created by processing natural gas, a fossil fuel.

Compressed air is most economically created by running a compressor on gasoline or diesel.

CFCs were relatively easy to stop because there were alternatives. There's no real alternative to fossil fuels. We use them to 'subsidize' everything we do. Everything you look at, no matter how green you think it is, is the product of easy availability of crute oil.

  13. Because there is just to much money involved with oil. That's all pretty much any cares about.

  14. Oil companies give politicians money for their campaigns to support them.  The problem with hydrogen is if a car with a hydrogen tank gets into an accident, it turns into a bomb.  There are alternative fuel source cars out there such as the Tesla electric roadster which are very practical.  However their are too expensive for most people to buy.

  15. Seriously? Do you know who you president and Vice president are? Check again in a year or so.

  16. "Yeah", and then the government can pass a law to make global warming illegal. "Oh wait there already is one".

Then pass a law to make cancer illegal, and hurricanes illegal.

But the truth is you could not last 1 hour without using fossil fuels or oil related products, so outlawing them is ridiculous until there is a suitable replacement energy source, which will not happen for 20 years or so.

  17. The technology isn't there to make complete switch....

It would mean that everyone would have to buy a new car, most people couldn't afford that....

And there are many of us that don't want to switch to something else

even with phasing  a change in, it would be highly unlikely that a full changeover from oil could occur in this century.....
