Why can't the whole world be on one time zone?

Seriously, why can't it be 4PM everywhere in the world? I know that would mean that over in Japan right now, it would be dark, but they could adjust. I thought about this while I was on a West Pac heading over to Iraq. We kept going west and every other night we'd have to set our clocks back an hour.

  1. Okay, we'll arrange it that you get up at 2:30 am to go to work.

time zones were created to make it easier for everyone to have "almost common" time scale.

when someone in Los Angeles gets up at 6:00 am and goes towork, thier cousin who lives in Charlotte North Carolina can do the same.

Believe it or not this is easier than explaining (or calculating) the time of every person you need to call.

what ifyou wanted to call you grandmother on the other side of th globe.....when would she go to bed?  without time zones,  you'd have to guess.

  2. It could be more confusing to people or businesses with contacts in those places. Like, if you think it's 4pm in Japan, but it's really more like 4 am, you're less likely to consider that they might be sound asleep. Just my 2 cents.

p.s. Plus that wouldn't account for the actual change in day that's based on our sunlight ... wherever you are, somewhere it's the day before or after.

  3. Do you really want noon to be in the middle of the night?

Besides if Time Stood Still it would always be Today.
