Why can't they ban those loud aftermarket mufflers?

I work in a building by the main street in downtown North York. Every 5 minutes or all we hear loud noises from some idiot driving by in souped up hondas with those stupidly big and loud mufflers. It is noise pollution and annoys everyone in the building, not to mention pedestrians who are standing next to them. I know in Europe cops actually carry noise meters to test how loud cars are and if they exceed certain decibals, these cars are ticketed and ordered to remove the aftermarket mufflers. They don't tolerate noise pollutions, why is it that in Canada there is no such law. Or this is but the cops aren't enforcing it?

The thing is, they are illegal and those people get MANY tickets, but they are so small that they don't care. They avoid doing it when they see cops, and the nail it when they know they are around lots of people. they are just pricks that put a coffee can on their c**p car to make it seem cool, after watching a movie like tokyo drift. They are total posers, and they should really just lose their license/car after 3 tickets (3 strikes). just my opinion though, maybe girls find it attractive HAHAHAHA

Well...in my area we say (especially for motorcycles) that loud pipes save lives. Because no one pays attention and they just get into another lane without looking. So if you have a loud pipe they can hear you and won't get over.

But in your case....Honda's sound like loud mopeds with aftermarket exhausts....so I hear ya on that. I hate Hondas!

Loud mufflers = low IQ  

It's a fact.  I've never seen anyone driving one of these POS that wasn't a punk.  If I've offended you because you've got one of these "whistles" on your muffler, then it's only because I intended to.  You don't impress anyone.

those loud mufflers are illegal, my friend has gotten pulled over 3 times and then 1 time again at a mcdonalds parking lot and he still hasnt learned.

cops rarely pull them over for just the muffler, they just tail the person because that muffler is just like a big 24' X 24' neon sign pointing to the car saying street racer
