Why can't they make COOL, protective electric cars?

first thing is that electric cars are just now reemerging from a long hiatus, and the technology is taking its first baby steps. as battery technology and electric motor technology improve, performance and range will improve, and fairly dramatically in the near future.

second as electric cars hit the open market, the consumer is going to want vehicles that look, ride and handle as their gasoline counterparts, and the automakers will step up the the plate a deliver. remember that they are in business to make money.

third government regulation will force the automakers to make the cars at least as safe as current gas powered models.

One of the reasons is that electric cars are not environmentally friendly mainly because all the discarded batteries will poison the soil and could even contaminate the water supply,another problem is the way we produce electricity which is responsible for a good percentage of pollution.Maybe the solution is not with the electric car but with the compressed air motor,that if the paranoia of growing hemp will subside and we could produce plastic from hemp but of course this plastic is too strong and durable and a car like that would last a lifetime. not convenient for the car makers.

Remember, this is a relatively new concept. Each company is trying desperately to come out with A protective electric car. Cool comes later. Like thunder follows lighning. Don't worry its coming.

believe it or not we have no way to actually "store" electricity at normal temperatures.

battery's convert chemical energy to electrical energy & when discharged we recharge them by reversing the process.

quite a bit of energy is wasted both times.

if an electric car battery is charged from a power plant 100 miles away you can lose up to 70% of the energy through transmission&line losses before it gets to the battery charger, you lose even more converting it to chemical energy in the battery

since fuel cells convert chemical fuels directly to electricity right in the vehicle & dont have to be recharged. I suspect it will take a new type of fuel cell to make electric cars practical & equal to combustion engines in efficiency.

I doubt you will ever see a 500 horse power electric car that you can afford though.

A lot of ppl been wondering same thing. Because Electric cars have small engines, not enough horse power  and there not to advanced. IF we had BMW that runs one electricity, trust me it would be number one car in America. Gasoline cars have been her for very,very long time and electric cars just starting to come out.
